In a unique gesture by the Sikh community, the last prayers –Antim Ardas of Dal Khalsa founder Gajinder Singh’s wife Manjeet Kaur will be held at Gurdwara Nankana Sahib in Pakistan on 1 February and at Darbar Sahib, Amritsar by Dal Khalsa activists on 5 February.

The Sikh nation has called for prayers at the historic Nankana Sahib in Pakistan and Darbar Sahib in Amritsar for the wife of Sikh revolutionary poet Gajinder Singh. 64 year-old Mohali resident Manjeet Kaur breathed her last in a German hospital where she was hospitalised for some time with multiple health issues.

She was cremated in Germany in the presence of a large number of Panthic leaders associated with the Khalistan movement from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, France, Switzerland and Germany.  Her only daughter Bikramjit Kaur and son-in-law Gurpreet Singh from UK performed the last rites.

Gajinder Singh – a stateless citizen, unfortunately could not be on her side nor could he attend her cremation. Leaving behind his mother, wife and a year-old daughter back in Chandigarh, he and his associates hijacked an Indian Airlines flight to Lahore in September 1981.  He served life imprisonment there.

Manjeet Kaur fought her way through in life upbringing her only daughter through thick and thin.  She attempted to get asylum in the United States but was declined. European country Germany with its liberal attitude to refugees came to her rescue and granted her asylum on health and humanitarian grounds.

Dal Khalsa spokesperson Kanwarpal Singh informed that the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee will hold the prayers –the Antim Ardas at Gurdwara Nankana Sahib.  The Samapati of Akhand Path Sahib will be done at Darbar Sahib, Amritsar in the morning of 5 February 2019 by the Dal Khalsa, in which Panthic personalities, representative of Panthic organisations and relatives of Gajinder Singh and his wife will join the prayers.
