Punjab Summit condemns police crackdown in the Punjab

Gathered to discuss various social, civil, and political issues concerning Punjab, leaders of 20 Sikh organizations convened the Punjab Summit in Amritsar, strongly condemned the security operation in the state to arrest Amritpal Singh and associates of Waris Punjab De. A WSN Report

ORGANISATIONS participating in The Punjab Summit lashed out at Punjab police for a massive crackdown on youth and arresting them in large numbers primarily to instill fear psychosis in the minds of the population of Punjab and Sikh youth in particular.

“The suspension of internet services and civil liberties using archaic laws is deplorable.” read the joint statement of the Punjab Summit. Equally deplorable is the suspension of internet services and civil liberties across the State.

“While the whereabouts of Amritpal Singh is still a mystery and has created resentment and fears in the public domain, the past history of the notoriety of the Punjab police force and Union security forces is still fresh in our minds,” the statement added.

The Punjab Summit demanded the restoration of internet services and clearing the uncertainty of arrests.

The organisations which condemned the security dragnet over Punjab, who participated in the Dal Khalsa-led Punjab Summit included SGPC, SAD (Amritsar), Damdami Taksal, Akhand Kirtani Jatha, Bhartiya Kisan Union (Krantikari), United Akali Dal, All India Sikh Students Federation, Students for Society, SATH, Sikh Youth of Punjab, Sikh Siyasat, Akal Federation, Panth Sewak, Punjab Lawyers, Khalra Mission organisation, Voices for Freedom and Majdoor Adhikar Sangathan.
