Rupinder Singh Marco gets 7th Human Rights Award

Leading Sikh business magnate and social activist Rupinder Singh Marco bestowed with the 7th Human Rights Award in recognition of his work for the underprivileged.

In recognition of his work for the downtrodden, poor and the underprivileged, entrepreneur and business magnate Rupinder Singh Marco was given the 7th Human Rights Award at the India Islamic Centre by various human rights bodies in Delhi last week, prominent among which was Council of Human Rights, Liberties and Social Justice.

Rupinder Singh Marco has initiated projects for the poor in Madhya Pradesh. He encourages employment and mentoring of the poor in his own industry as well as training youth for employability in other industries.

Son of renowned scholar and writer Manohar Singh Marco who wrote many books and articles on Sikh history and is famous for his many writings, Rupinder Singh is contributing substantially to skill development for the underprivileged and furthering the work of his father. He says, “I strongly believe that poverty can be eradicated through education and empowerment.”

Rupinder Singh has published books of the works of his illustrious father, including a book entitled “Sikh Heritage through Stamps” which catalogues postage stamps with Sikhs from different countries depicting their achievement in different fields.

He is passionate about the research work done by his father about Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji di Pavan Punit Bani Diyan Hath Likhat Pracheen Beeran di Parikarma -a comprehensive chronology of old manuscripts of hand written versions of Guru Granth Sahib. The first volume of this momentous work has been published while the second and third are under publication.

Selected as one of the 500 Sikh role models by a Sikh organisation, Rupinder Singh Marco is the chairperson of the Marco Foundation, through which it establishes sewing centres for poor ladies from financially weaker sections in Madhya Pradesh.
