Significantly, the Sikh association with Tibet is more than two centuries old when Sikh soldiers went on an expansionist expedition to Tibet and China in the Tibetan region resulting in the Sino-Sikh-Tibetan Treaty with the Sri Sarkar Khalsa of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in 1842. This region in Tibet fondly recalls the bravery and religious attitude of the Sikh army men. In this region, the first Master of the Sikhs -the founder of Sikhism -Guru Nanak is referred to as the Nanak Lama.
